The Fujifilm, IPad2 and the Apple camera connection kit

So in preparation for my frequent traveling this later part of the year, I decided to get the Apple connection kit so that I can upload the pictures taken by the X100 to the IPad and henceforth to the blog.

The kit cost Sin$38/- in any Apples reseller outlets. It consist of 2 components, a USB port and a SD card reader.

You can either plug in the USB connector to a USB cable which is connected to your camera or you can take out your camera's SD card and plug that into the SD port connector. And yes..only SD cards are supported.

There have been reports that some SD cards stop working after transfer and have to be reformatted in a pc or Mac outside of the IPad to get it working again.
A safe work around is to switch your SD card to safe mode when you want to do a transfer with the connection kit. And remember to switch it back to write mode right after.

There were also users reporting that the USB port can be connected to other USB peripherals like keyboards, headphones and if your IPad is jail broken, an external drive.
But when the IPad was updated to IOS 4.3, it kinda stop working because the port is running on different (lower) power voltage.

So here I am trying out the kit with my Fujifilm X100 and well..it worked flawlessly!

One thing to note is that I use Photoshop express to edit the photos in the IPad but for some reason it cannot edit raw files(NEF) from the Nikon D90.
On the other hand, I have no problems with the X100 raw files and Jpegs :)

The Pickup transplant

I decided to do something to my Blue Mexican Richie Sambora strat because even though I love playing on it..I can't record with it as it is so noisy with the dreaded 60 cycle hum..

So I ordered the SL11 EMG pickup set from Amazon and proceeded to do a DIY transplant!!

But things nearly went really wrong when I found out that the EMG pick guard was too small as the Blue strat has a Floyd Rose installed!!!

But thank God...all went well with some tools that Dora had hanging around in the house..

PS: In case you are wondering why I have like golden parts in my Floyd Rose bridge, I was in Hong Kong when a single string tail piece came off..I went to TOM LEE to look for a replacement bridge. But they only have the Golden ones...so I changed all the string tail pieces with the Golden ones...:)
